DCI Confirms the Rearrest of Suspended NHIF Boss Geoffery Mwangi

DCI has confirmed the rearrest of the suspended NHIF boss Geoffery Mwangi, this time over a Ksh 1.1 billion Jambopay scandal

The scandal involved contracts for the provision of integrated revenue collection services.

This comes days after Mwangi was released on a Ksh 500,000 bail after he was charged with obstruction of justice by defying of court orders.

DCI boss George Kinoti told Citizen that he had dispatched 30 senior detectives on November 8, 2018, to hunt down the remaining 17 senior officials involved in the scandal.

He confirmed that  the missing officials’ phones had been switched off since the crime unit started the series of arrests.

Kinoti, however, promised Kenyans to expect more arrests in the coming week as he would not relent pursuing leads unearthing graft cases facing NHIF.

Mwangi has been keenly trying to avoid the long arm of the law since he was suspended from the corporation.

The latest arrests reveal the extent to which graft has crippled NHIF with this not being the first time the corporation has been highlighted over graft scandals.

Just recently, the sensational story of Fredric Sagwe, a customer care officer at NHIF who owned 10 houses worth Ksh 160 million and several businesses worth Ksh 50 million broke the internet.

On December 8, 2018, DCI nubbed Former NHIF CEO Simeon ole Kirgotty alongside two others over Sh1.5 Billion graft.
