DP William Ruto Declares He is Raila's Son in Kisumu Address

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday opened up on his personal relationship with Raila Odinga declaring that he was ODM Party leader's son.

Addressing Kisumu City residents, the DP appeared to play to the lake city audience's tune with a majority of them being Raila's die-hard fans.

"Mimi ndio kijana mkubwa wa baba yetu Raila, na hapa mimi niko nyumbani (I am Raila firstborn son, being in Kisumu hence means I am at home)," he stated.

At Kondele Market which is considered a hotspot of political turmoil, Raila was the first to address the crowd followed by President Uhuru Kenyatta with the DP keeping off.

As the entourage was about to drive off, the crowd started chanting Ruto's name.

This saw the Head of State tell Ruto to address the crowd that had turned to meet them on the first leg of the 2-day tour.

"Haiyaaa! Si mumesikia wadosi wameongea, si mmesikia? Mimi sina mengi ya kusema (Alright. You have all heard, its the people who have decided that I should address them. I don't have much to say)," Ruto stated as he bowed to the crowd.

"Uhasimu na uadui wa kisiasa kati yangu na ndugu yangu mkubwa Raila ambaye pia ni rafiki yangu sana imekwisha leo (The enemity and political hostility between me and my brother Raila who is also my great friend is over today)," he added as the crowd cheered.

Ruto used to be a staunch Raila supporter prior to the 2007 General Elections both being members of the then formidable coalition - the Pentagon.

However, following the contested presidential elections and the ensuing post-election violence, the two fell out and turned into political rivals.

During the 2017 presidential campaigns, Ruto was heckled in Kisumu with the residents preferring to listen to Uhuru.

Raila and Ruto have often traded jibes during past public addresses and the two are expected to have a great say in the 2022 presidential elections.
