Two suspects, Rosalyn Wangari Mwihaki and Josephat Macharia Wanjiru, arrested for breaking into a car parked at Thika Road Mall on 9 December and got away with Ksh 300,000, were arraigned in a Kiambu court.
The two, however, did not take the plea as the prosecution presented a miscellaneous criminal application, seeking five more days to complete the investigations.
Senior Magistrate Brian Khaemba ruled that the suspects be held at Kasarani Police Station for three days and be arraigned in court on December 24.
Rosalyn and Josephat, alongside two other suspects, were caught on camera breaking into a Range Rover owned by Eric Ndichu Muiruri, a Kiambu tycoon businessman, popularly known as Ka-Virginia.
According to a CCTV footage seen by DCI officers investigating the incident, four men and a woman were captured trailing him from the time he left his car at the parking lot, to the bank and back to his car.
One of the five robbers was seen smashing the car windows and injuring himself in the process leading to serious bleeding. A second guy then got inside the car through the window while sustaining deep cuts from the shattered glass.
He was later seen emerging with an envelope containing the cash before getting away alongside his accomplices in a white Nissan Tilda Reg no. KCM 631X.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on that particular day, the Kiambu tycoon recounted how he lost his money minutes after he had withdrawn it from the bank.
"On Saturday, l went to TRM's rooftop parking and headed to KCB bank around 1:30 p.m where I withdrew Ksh 565,000 before the early closing hours of banks on Saturday," he narrated.
He disclosed that he later went back to his car, a Range Rover KBT 577G where he put the money underneath the driver's seat, locked the car and went back to the mall.
Coming back, Ndichu was surprised to find the front left window smashed with blood stains all over the seats.
"Opening the door, I found all the money, phones, laptops, and other valuables stolen," he lamented.
After the incident, Muiruri, through Ng'ang'a Kimani & Associates Advocates, sent an official complaint to TRM over the incident.
