Sports CS Rashid Risks ICC Prosecution Over Human Trafficking

Sports CS Rashid Echesa may find himself in more trouble as he risks being indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over human trafficking.

According to city lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Human Trafficking & Enslavement are international crimes under Article 7 of the Rome Statute.

“It's also a Federal Offence in the US. Sports CS Rashid Echesa has on his motion invited International Criminal Court (ICC) On himself ... His village career will end in the global stage,” he commented.

Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot ordered more investigations into the arrest of eight Pakistani dancers who were arrested at a club in Parklands.

Defence lawyer Evans Ondieki told the court that the girls were in the country with permission from the CS.

He explained that the cultural dancers were allowed to enter the country by Echesa to promote trans-national cultures.

The lawyer stated that each of ladies had paid the Immigration Department Kshs 45,000 to be issued with special passes.

The magistrate directed that the girls be detained in a safe house under in the custody of Nadeem Khan of Blue Heart, a non-governmental organisation against Human trafficking, Violence, and Child Abuse.

Cheruiyot gave orders that only police from the trans-national crimes desk can access them.

They are expected to appear in court on January 8, when the proprietor of Bella Bella Club, Safendra Kumar Sonwani, and his manager Mika Osichiro, will be arraigned for prosecution on human trafficking charges.
