Human Trafficking Racket Uncovered in Nairobi's Uhuru Estate

The purge on illegal immigrants struck a major win on Wednesday after busting a human trafficking racket at Nairobi’s Uhuru Estate.

A team of crime-busters comprising DCI and immigration officials arrested a Kenyan woman aiding human trafficking.

Ms Dorothy Katunge was arrested by the sleuths alongside ten Ugandans as part of an operation to stem out human traffickers.

Immigration officials say the Ugandan nationals shall be repatriated to their country.

Ms Katunge who was found hosting the Ugandans at her house in Uhuru estate will be presented before a Nairobi court on Thursday.

According to the Director of Immigration Services Alexander Muteshi, Ms Katunge had been trafficking the Ugandans to the Middle East.

This came just a few hours after the arrest of 12 Chinese at a brothel in Nairobi's South C Estate.

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has in recent days led the deportation of at least 2,000 illegal immigrants in an operation to clean up the public service and Kenyan job market targetting foreigners without work permits.

Among the deported are more than 60 hotel managers and businessmen who sneaked into the country and work without authentic permits.

28 Department of Immigration staff were recently fired for the irregular issuance of passports to foreigners.

Kenya spends about Sh360 million per year to deport foreigners found living in the country without the requisite documents.

CS Matiang'i declared war on illegal immigrants saying it was wrong for foreigners to work or stay in the country without meeting all legal requirements.

“We can do more with the Kshs360 million. Is it fair? I personally would like to discourage this idea of spending public resources to deport people,” held Matiang'i previously.
