US Responds to Dusit D2 Terror Attack

The US has responded following the reports of the terror attack at Dusit D2 Hotel, 14 Riverside Drive, Westlands.

In a statement on social media, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs warned its citizens in the area to exercise caution.

"There are reports of an explosion and an active shooter situation at the Dusit Hotel complex in the Westland district of Nairobi. Avoid the area, monitor local news, and follow emergency instructions," read a statement on their official website.

The US nationals were further urged to notify family friends of their safety.

A convoy of armoured vehicles responded to the suspected terror attack. The vehicles carried specialised forces from the US embassy.

Earlier in the evening, the police also issued a status update on the situation.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino stated that the situation was being handled as a suspected terror attack.

"All police teams have been dispatched to the scene where the incident is. As at now, we are treating it as anything, including the highest attack.

"All police teams including anti-terror officers are at the scene," he revealed.

Al-Shabaab has since claimed responsibility of the attack in Nairobi.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, a spokesperson of the militia group revealed that they were conducting an operation in the capital.

"We are currently conducting an operation in Nairobi." stated the spokesperson.
