IG Joseph Boinnet's Statement on Dusit D2 Hotel Terror Attack

The Inspector General (IG) of Police Joseph Boinnet, on Tuesday evening, issued a statement following the Dusit D2 hotel attack at Riverside, Westlands.

According to the IG, the attack was not a robbery but rather a suspected attack by criminal elements.

He explained that the attack started at I&M banks before the assailants proceeded to the Dusit premises.

"We regret to confirm that at approximately 3pm today, a group of armed assailants attacked the Dusit Complex in a suspected terror attack," he announced.

He stated that the security and emergency forces immediately responded to the incident and cordoned off the area.

"The situation is being managed and the residents are being screened and evacuated from the area," he commented.

"We are aware that armed criminals are holding up in the hotel and special forces are now currently flushing them out," Boinnet added.

However, he confirmed that there had been reported cases of injuries but was yet to confirm the number and types of injuries incurred.

He further divulged that the police were vigilant throughout the holiday season and therefore all public and other hotel premises remained under close watch.

The IG assured that the operation exercise was continuing noting that six of the seven Dusit floors had been secured.

He urged the public to remain calm and to cooperate with all security forces and to provide any information that they may deem as useful to the security forces.
