CS Amina Mohamed Intervenes After Starehe Boys Centre Rejects Candidate

The plight of a Form One student from Isiolo County who was denied admission at the prestigious Starehe Boys Centre has finally reached the Ministry of Education.

This prompted the Ministry to intervene to have Jack Mutuma Mbabu admitted to Mang’u High school.

Education CS Amina Mohammed ordered that Mutuma be admitted to the new school immediately to ensure that he catches up with those who had already been admitted.

That issue has been resolved and the student who was going to Starehe has been posted to Mang’u,” CS Amina confirmed.

Mutuma failed to secure admission at Starehe even after scoring an impressive 417 marks in the 2018 KCPE, angering many Kenyans.

The school refused to admit him despite securing a letter of admissions from the Ministry of Education and paying Kshs 70,000 worth of school fees to the school account.

According to the Acting Centre Director Josphat Mwaura, the student had not been selected to join the school but was merely one of 24 students that had been recommended for consideration by the ministry.

He also added that the school refused to admit the Isiolo boy because his parents did not fill requisite forms which were supposed to be completed in July 2018 as part of the admission requirements.

The school also cited that Mutuma’s father David Babu acted inappropriately and was rude to the administration.
