Judge in Hassan Wario's Case Loses Cool Over Delays

The judge presiding over former Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario's case lost his cool after he was forced to postpone the matter for the third time.

Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Douglas Ogoti accused the prosecution of blaming Judiciary for slowing down cases yet it was them who lacked seriousness.

“Judiciary is being blamed for laxity yet you are the ones delaying matters for lack of seriousness and coordination,” stated Ogoti.

He further asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to conduct thorough investigations on their staff to ascertain competence.

Angered by the matter, Ogoti declared that no accused persons should plead to charges without the availability of material evidence in court.

The meltdown came after the prosecution requested that the case is adjourned since they had not served the defence with the evidential documents.

They further blamed investigators for not effectively providing the documents in question to respective persons.

The investigators, however, provided reasons for failure to forward the documents arguing that one of them had been held up before proceeding on leave whereas the other had only communicated through WhatsApp message.

“I was away for training and later proceeded on leave,” stated one investigator.

Wario is facing corruption charges alongside other officials including abuse of office and willful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds.
