5 Things President Uhuru and DP Ruto Discussed During Lunch Date

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto retreated to Mombasa on Wednesday after making changes in the cabinet on Tuesday.

Among the top points of debate was the government's 2019 agenda

Henceforth, all government departments and semi-autonomous agencies will have to borrow a leaf from the multi-agency approach used by the Interior Ministry.

This followed the appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the Chairperson of the newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee.

During the lunch meeting that was also attended by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, corruption took centre stage.

Haji gave an update on the status of the fight against graft, which the President has lodged a full-blown war on.

The presence of Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju also indicated that party politics also featured in the discussions.

Just a week before, Tuju had revealed the party's expansion plan that would culminate in an election before March 2020.

Uhuru and Ruto were also joined by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, his Senate counterpart Kenneth Lusaka, House Majority leaders Aden Duale (National Assembly) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Senate), Senate deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki (Tharaka-Nithi), and Senate Deputy Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a).

“We discussed our legislative agenda ahead of the resumption of the two Houses,” Prof Kindiki told Nation

The leaders also deliberated on a looming crisis where there is an alleged plot by some MPs to shoot down a Supplemetary Budget Bill that is expected to be tabled in Parliament in February when the house resumes.
