DPP Haji Headed to Supreme Court to Force Charged Officials Out of Office

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has announced plans of moving to the Supreme Court to ensure that Governor Okoth Obado and other government officials facing charges in court step out of office.

He was speaking at the Anti-corruption conference organised by the Multi-Sectoral Initiative Against corruption at the Bomas of Kenya on January 24, 2019.

He revealed that he would seek to have the officials step out of office, even after being released on bail, citing that the constitution stipulated that.

“I have been fighting to ask those people we have been charged to step aside; they must step aside and that is in the Constitution and it is a right that we must have,” he announced.

Citing Governor Obado, he noted that the governor, who is facing murder charges, was back in office allegedly intimidating and threatening witnesses.

“As Kenyans, you will blame us that we have taken some governors to court, we have charged them, but they are now back in office,” Haji noted.

“We have charged two governors; one for murder and another one for corruption now they are walking outside there intimidating and threatening witnesses especially those working in their counties,” he continued.

Also present in the conference were the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, Attorney General Paul Kihara and the newly appointed EACC Boss Twalib Mbarak.

AG Kihara urged the members of the public to be active participants in the war against graft because it was a national fight.

On his side, DCI Kinoti expressed his frustration over court orders that restrained his department from making arrests.

EACC Boss Twalib Mbarak vowed to engage the DCI and DPP closely to ensure that the fight against graft is won.
