KUPPET Vice Chairperson Julius Korir Calls for Teachers to be Armed

Kuppet Vice Chairperson Julius Korir has called for all teachers to be armed following an incident where students killed a teacher in Nakuru County.

He was speaking at a press briefing in Nakuru on Saturday, January 26, 2019.

Korir claimed that teachers were in danger following the incident and should, therefore, be allowed to protect themselves in classrooms.

“If students are planning and executing the murder of their teachers, it means no teacher is safe in the school,” he pointed out.

He continued to note that the best way teachers would be safe is if the government allowed them to carry guns in school.

“The best way is for the government to allow them to carry guns,” Korir urged.

He also mobilized teachers to shun taking up night preps supervisions if their safety was not guaranteed.

“If the area is unsafe or if you have inside sources that students are planning bad things, I urge teachers not to do any prep duties because that would be risking their lives,” he added.

Korir also highly condemned the killing of Peter Omare Mogusu, a teacher at Hopewell Secondary School, Nakuru who was clobbered to death by students during night preps.

“We condemn the heinous and cowardly act that resulted into the murder of our comrade. It is unfortunate and very sad to have lost a young and gallant hardworking teacher at a prime age of 32 years while in the line of duty, ”he announced.

The union boss urged that the culprits of the murder be brought to book according to the law, also sensitizing the need for the re-introduction of corporal punishments to reduce indiscipline in schools.
