Another Bomb Scare at Odeon Over Abandoned Luggage

A metal box caused quite a stir in Nairobi CBD after it was found abandoned at Odeon Cinema on Monday, January 28.

Members of the public around the area suspected that the box could have contained explosives and called the police.

A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke shows that the area had been cordoned off. DCI officers later collected the unattended metallic box and normalcy was restored.

This comes just two days after a blast from an improvised explosive device injured two people at the same location.

The explosive was reported to have come from a man who had hired a cart puller to help carry some luggage.

When the two got to the Latema Road-Tom Mboya street junction, the suspect informed the cart-pusher, who was been identified as Joseph Okinyi, that he had forgotten his identification card at an M-PESA shop and requested to dash back and pick it.

While Okinyi was standing at the junction, the box that he was carrying exploded. He sustained minor injuries on his right hand during the incident.

A newspaper vendor who was nearby also sustained minor injuries on his right leg. The two were rushed to hospital and were later discharged.

Investigators will rely on CCTV cameras placed near the scene of the explosion to identify the attacker and track his movements.
