Three murder suspects were, in a bizarre twist of events, released from Uasin Gishu Law Courts without being charged.
They were reportedly released, in a case of mistaken identity, after they got mixed up with petty offenders who had been transferred from Langas Police Station to the courts.
Confirming the incidence, Eldoret South OCPD Wilson Abduba stated that the three, who had been accused of killing a boda-boda rider, walked out of the court unnoticed.
The area's Director of Criminal Investigations has, however, launched a manhunt for the three escapees disclosing that action had been taken against the officer who was at the station when the mix up happened.
He further divulged that the authorities had released pictures of the suspects, with police working around the clock to re-arrest them.
“We know those whose kin was killed are feeling great pain and we also sympathise with them but we ask that they be patient as we follow up to arrest the suspects," he stated.
The mix-up angered the residents of Kipkenyo village who took to the streets to protest, demanding that the station's OCS be transferred.
Abduba, however, defended the OCS claiming that the escape of the three suspects was not his fault.
“The OCS did not order for the release and we have already taken action against the officer who did the mix-up,” he remarked.
