Man Jumps Off Nyali Bridge on Valentine's Day [VIDEO]

Mombasa residents were on Thursday treated to a dramatic Valentine's Day when a man tried to kill himself by jumping into the Indian Ocean.

The incident took place at the Nyali Bridge where the unidentified man jumped off within an aim of taking his life.

Locals rushed to the scene in a bid to save the heavy-set man believed to be in his 40s.

As the first responders retrieved him from the water, the man was heard proclaiming, "I want to kill myself."

His reasons for attempting to take his own life remain unknown.

Witnesses told reporters at the scene that the man had contemplated jumping while on top of the bridge for sometime before actually taking the plunge at around 10am.

He was retrieved 100 metres from the shore and Red Cross officials arrived at the scene and rushed him to Coast General Hosptial for treatment.

Investigations have been launched into the incident.

Several suspected suicide incidences have been reported at Nyali bridge. In 2016, the body of a man was found floating at the place.

Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara told reporters that fishermen noticed the floating lifeless body which was suspected to be in the waters for a few days.
