Joe Kadenge Suffers Stroke After Daughter Dies

Kenyan football legend, Joe Kadenge, is currently admitted at Nairobi Hospital after he suffered a stroke on Thursday.

Rodgers Kadenge (the veteran’s son) revealed that his father had been in good health, however, things took a turn for the worse since last week on Saturday.

This was after the family got word of Eva Kadenge Hoskin’s (Kadenge’s daughter), following a short illness.

“He started showing signs of suffering stroke on Tuesday and it must have been triggered by the death of my sister Eve who passed on in the US on Saturday,” Rodgers revealed.

The ex- Nakuru All-Stars, Maragoli FC, and Abaluhyia FC's, (now AFC Leopards) star player was rushed to hospital in the morning.

According to reports, relatives, friends and football fanatics, who got to enjoy his graceful style on the pitch are already converging at the hospital to wish him well.

Famed for the ‘Kadenge na mpira moniker, his journey to stardom began when he debuted against Zanzibar in 1957. His stellar performances earned him a call-up to the Nakuru combined team for the Remington cup, a tournament in which he proved to be a cut above the rest.

The following year, Kadenge inspired Kenya’s 2-0 Gossage Cup victory over Uganda, scoring one goal and assisting the other.

He is regarded as an AFC Leopards legend, as he was part of the team that matched to a league victory in 1966.

The legend also made history with the national team after leading them to their inaugural Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup victory.

An ardent Manchester United supporter, last year Kadenge got a visit from President Uhuru Kenyatta and his wife Margaret in his South B home, during which he gifted the first family his legendary number 7 jersey.
