Migori ODM Office Shut Down Over Kshs54K Outstanding Rent

The Orange Democratic Movement offices in Migori County, West Sakwa Ward, have been shut down following rent arrears of Ksh54,000.

Migori Party Chairman Juma Akoko on Monday stated that the party was looking to have another Ward office in the area.

The office has been under lock and key for three months now according to Evance Otieno, West Sakwa ODM party youth leader.

Otieno also noted that elected leaders had absconded paying the Ksh54,000 since their election into the various parties.

West Sakwa MCA, Nestory Owiyo, stated that he had to offer part of his office for meetings to discuss payment and clearance of the arrears.

Owiyo noted that he had offered to pay part of the bill, which is Ksh 20,000.

Owiyo has further urged other party leaders to contribute and pay for the remaining Ksh 34,000 to clear the bill and resume operations.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna stated that he didn't have proper information regarding the incident by the time of publishing but promised to confirm with the grassroot leaders.

ODM has had a previous incident where it was kicked out by a landlord from its premises.

In 2018, the party was to vacate its Orange House offices in Nairobi after an agreement with the landlord not to renew their lease contract.

“We wish to confirm that the tenancy of our National Secretariat at the current premises known as Orange House will come to its end on December 31 2018, and by mutual consent between the Landlord and tenant, we have agreed not to renew it," read the agreement.
