Several Jubilee leaders clashed on Friday in front of Deputy President William Ruto during the burial of Mama Jeniffer Cianjagi Njuki, mother of Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki.
It all began when Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria expressed his intention to join the 2022 Presidential race.
"God has blessed me in many ways. We have been told that we should steer off politics, but when I look at the leaders present, I am the only one capable of carrying out my duties and still politick.
"I am here to ask for your votes as a presidential candidate. Come 2022, my name will be on the ballot box, I will disclose the party that I will use to vie," Kuria stated as the mourners burst out in laughter.
His comments, however, did not go well with a majority of the Jubilee leaders present.
In a quick rejoinder, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru indicated that one could easily tell the regions political inclination and who they were likely to support come 2022.
"Na siasa tunajua kufanya. Na ile upande tuko, ukiangalia utajua ni gani. Kwa hivo hatutaongea hayo leo, lakini niambie Moses Kuria, si upande yako (We are good at doing politics, and even if you look at us, you can tell who has our support. Although we will not about that today, I want to tell Kuria that our support is not his)," Waiguru noted.
Her Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu, equally criticised Kuria indicating that the MP was creating confusion on the region's allegiance.
"We don't want the residents of Tharaka Nithi to wonder why the electorate in Kiambu are confused. I want to state that we are fully supporting the DP," Waititu asserted.
Then came the Kikuyu MP Antony Kimani Ichung’wa who equally fired a salvo against Kuria.
"When the time comes, I will tour Tharaka Nithi to ask you to vote for someone as the President. My preferred candidate will neither be me, nor Moses Kuria," Ichung’wa remarked.
Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi equally joined the debate by giving an analogy about the life of a chicken vs that of a cow.
"A hen will boast across the village after laying a single egg. On the other hand, a cow will feed an entire village with milk and no one will get to hear the news.
"Going forward, the region will no longer vote naysayers, we will vote people who prove to be beneficial to us. We will vote for our interests first," Kiraitu added.
