DCI Exposes Men Posing as Socialites

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has exposed seven men posing as socialites.

According to the DCI, the fraudsters were also imitating a very senior government officer to obtain money by false pretenses.

The conmen were arrested on Saturday evening after an intense operation by the detectives.

The DCI identified the culprits as Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wanyonyi, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Antony Wafula.

"The fraudsters who were mostly targeting the Indian community are currently in lawful custody and will be charged on Monday," the DCI noted.

The detectives also confiscated several vehicles that they were being used by the fraudsters in the conning games.

The vehicles included a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (KCS 768F), Toyota Mark X (KCS 994A) and a Toyota Axio Silver (KCR 497Q).

Late in 2018, the DCI exposed how conmen were using the name of the Director DCI George Kinoti to swindle innocent members of the Public.

In a screenshot shared on Twitter, the DCI noted how an impostor called and texted a victim asking them to send passport photos in an undisclosed deal.

"This is therefore, a caution to the members of the public against falling prey to such criminals," the DCI warned.
