Video of Nairobi Street Boys Singing Wows Kenyans

Three street boys in Nairobi have wowed Kenyans with their melodious voices and mastery of gospel music.

The trio identified as Dennis Njuguna, Derrick Mwangi and Joseph Kimani came into the limelight after an encounter with renowned philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro.

In a video shared on social media, the youngsters expressed their desire to escape the street life and lead a more decent life.

Giving an account of the hard life in the streets, the three noted that they were initially bonding as a group of six.

An attempt to rob the Grogon garage area turned tragic after three of them were fallen by police bullets.

"I saw our friends Onyi and Peter die and we decided to abandon the criminal lifestyle for good," one of them noted.

Kimani indicated that he landed in the streets of Nairobi following the 2007 election skirmishes that affected his family in Tumaini area, Molo, Nakuru County.

His friend, however, alleged that he could barely recollect the memories about his family or hometown as he suffered memory lapse following years of drug abuse.

The trio expressed that their first desire would be to have a house to reside in which would enable them move from the streets.

They further narrated that they have perfected their music art by streaming gospel music on YouTube at a cybercafe near Afya Centre free of charge.

"There is a woman who runs a cyber cafe near Afya Centre. She allows us to stream gospel music on hours for free.

"She realized our passion for music and since we do not stream inappropriate content, she does not charge us anything," he added.

Following the video, the partially reformed street boys made an impression on many Kenyans owing to their voices and great gospel messages.

A section of netizens opined that the street boys were far more talented that a lot of career gospel artists in the country.

Others offered their messages of goodwill and offered to support to the budding artists.

In one of the songs, the boys drop the lyrics "Sometimes I get emotional when I meet street boys on in Nairobi, but I always encourage that one day Jesus will come and save us from this trouble".
