DP Ruto Rubbishes Ksh21 Billion Kimwarer, Arror Dams Scandal

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday rubbished reports on the brewing Ksh21 billion scandal in the Kimwarer and Arror multi-purpose dams project in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Speaking at the Supreme Court of Kenya during the official presentation of the State of Judiciary and Administration of Justice Report (SOJAR), 2017/2018, the DP alleged that the corruption reports had been exaggerated.

"You must have heard reports that Ksh21 billion has been lost in Kimwarer and Arror dams which is a flat lie.

"The money in question is about Ksh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost. We are a responsible government," the DP asserted.

He added that the fight against corruption must be prosecuted on the basis of facts and correct information in order to nail the real culprits.

"Every Kenyan must play their part. Every sector must play its part," he added.

Ruto further indicated that there have been discrepancies in the prosecution of corruption cases in court.

"Sometimes when you say Ksh9 billion has been lost and when we go in the court it turns to be Ksh100 million, the public is asking, what happened to the other Ksh8.1 billion?" Ruto posed.

The DP indicated that there is renewed synergy and commitment from the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary to fight corruption and deliver to the people of Kenya.

"I thought that I should say this so that the narrative being built that everything that the government is doing is corrupt... we must be sincere and honest.

"We don't need to criminalize, bastardize and or create propaganda around every government initiative that is going on," he concluded.
