Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones Loses Son

Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones on Friday morning lost his son Collins Kipyegon.

According to doctors at War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru, Kipyegon died at the Intensive Care Unit where he was rushed to.

The Standard reported that the deceased committed suicide by taking poison.

“He was rushed here early morning for having taken poison and doctors did all they could do to save his life but unfortunately he died,” commented a doctor from the hospital.

However, according to The Star, former Roads Minister Franklin Bett, who is a family friend, denied reports that the deceased, whose father was former Cabinet Minister Kipkalya Kones, committed suicide.

"The Late minister's son didn't commit suicide. There was no indication in his house that he committed suicide. Let's wait for the postmortem results," he mentioned.

Beatrice is the wife of the Late Kones’,  who passed away in 2008 following a plane crash together with Lorna Laboso (deceased) in Narok.

After the death of her husband, Beatrice ran and won the Bomet Parliamentary seat in 2008 in a by-election.

She hit the political airwaves when she successfully ran for Bomet East seat against her other son Kipng’etich Kalya.

Beatrice managed 22,796 votes against her son's 2,410 votes.

Kipng'etich vied on a Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) ticket and got a lot of support from outgoing Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto while Beatrice vied on a Jubilee Party ticket.
