Flying Squad Boss Raids Alcohol Firm in Midnight Sting Operation

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, led by Flying Squad Boss, on Saturday night, conducted a raid on an alcohol manufacturer and confiscated property. 

The night raid was conducted at Two Cousins Distillers Limited-Munene Industries in Thika over suspicion of Tax evasion. 

The items confiscated include drums of ethanol, cartons of Trace Vodka & other company documents. 

The operation followed confiscation of suspected contraband goods which were being transported to Karuri, within Kiambu.

Detectives arrested the driver of the vehicle who led them to the factory.

The DCI disclosed that the company's directors were still at large. 

So far three alcohol manufacturers have been raided in sting operations conducted by the DCI. 

On February 8, DCI George Kinoti led detectives in uncovering a Ksh6 billion tax evasion scheme at Africa Spirits Limited in Thika. 

The police seized 21 million counterfeit excise stamps and 312,000 litres of illicit products estimated to be worth Ksh1.2 billion in total.

On 24 the same month, employees of Platinum Distillers were caught unawares when authorities conducted a sting operation at the factory. 

KRA official Edward Karanja told Nation that the company was raided over a plot to evade Ksh14 million in taxes.
