Kakamega Woman Gives Birth to Quintuplets

28-year-old Evelyn Namukhula on Wednesday gave birth to five children at the Kakamega General Hospital, three girls and two boys through Cesarean Section.

Namukhula and her husband Herbert Wawire, who hail from Sisokhe village in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega, are now parents to nine children as they had four others before the latest delivery.

The lady has had two single births, a set of twins, and now quintuplets totaling to nine children.

Niko na wengine wanne, Sasa nimezaa watano, wote wanakua watoto tisa (I have four other children, now I have given birth to five, all totaling to nine children)," Evelyn told reporters from her hospital bed.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Kakamega CEC for Health Penina Mukabane, while visiting her in hospital, promised that the County Government would pick her details, register her for NHIF and pay for the whole year.

She joins a now 32-year-old Jacinta Akinyi from Homa Bay, who in 2017 also gave birth to quintuplets. Another coincidence is that Jacinta also had four other children by the time she gave birth to the five.

Akinyi gave birth to three boys and two girls. She had given birth to two boys at her home in Kachieng East Kamagak, Kasipul Sub-county. Unfortunately, they both died.

When she kept complaining of pain, she was rushed to Matata Nursing Home in Oyugis town and gave birth to two girls and a boy.

The world record for most babies delivered in a single birth and survived stands at eight.

Nadya Suleman of the USA gave birth to six boys and two girls on January 26,2009 in Bellflower, Carlifonia.
