Daily Nation Forced to Clarify Over Fake Raila Headline

For a second time in a period of two weeks, Daily Nation has been forced to clarify over its front page after an alarming headline hit newsstands.

On Wednesday, two images of the leading newspaper were circulating with a different set of headlines, packaged in a similar design just like that of Daily Nation.

The fake edition ran with the headline, "17B fake money linked to Raila's close allies," whereas the Daily Nation's edition ran with, "Court freezes assets of firm in dams row."

On Facebook, the media house revealed that the headline was fake.

"Here is today's Daily Nation front page. Do not fall for fake headlines.#FakeNewsAlert," Daily Nation captioned.

The style of writing in the fake edition is not in line with the guidelines the media house subscribes to.

However, the fake paper tries to capture stories that could be timely.

On Wednesday last week, another fake edition of the newspaper went viral on social media, forcing the media house to clarify the issue.

The first edition had run with the headline, "Jimmy Wanjigi Paid 6.5 Billion for Dams," whereas the second read, "Gloves off as Ruto allies take on Uhuru."

Expert staffers stated the fake edition was marred with errors compared to how the genuine edition was packaged.
