DCI Goes After Legislators Linked to Drug Trafficking at Coast

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has put two members of the Mombasa County Assembly in its radar over alleged links to the criminal gangs and drug trafficking in the area.

The two are suspected to be involved in the operations of “Wakali kwanza” and “Wajukuu wa bibi” gangs in Kisauni and Likoni.

The Star reports that the intelligence report indicated that the two were behind the gangs terrorizing residents in the area.

The report also revealed that the financial proceeds they received from the drug business were used to finance the two gangs.

Coast region deputy police commander Muriithi Mutonga revealed that undercover police had been dispatched to investigate the alleged claims.

We have launched the investigation, we will not spare anybody found capable,” said the police boss.

It is also reported that the two legislators act as a link between the drug barons and the criminal gangs which are used to supply the drugs.

The two MCAs are accused of storming Inuka and Likoni police stations and demanding the release of gang members and drug peddlers that had been arrested.

It is also alleged that the police find it difficult to arrest the two as they are well connected to influential people in the county.

Another officer who sort anonymity stated that some officers in the region were curtailing the fight against drugs as they were collaborating with the drug barons, traffickers and peddlers.
