For the longest, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has identified himself as a people's person but most of them disagreed with his latest championing role.
On Tuesday night, the outspoken politician took to social media to vent after a court awarded Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal harsh bail and bond terms of Ksh100 million and Ksh150 million respectively.
He attacked the ruling revealing that it was "definitely prejudicial and presumes guilt of the accused even before trial proceedings have even began."
Babu further explained that the terms also spelt disaster for petty crime offenders since the bar had been set high and would be "slapped with similar unreasonable terms."
However, Kenyans were quick to respond with some accusing the legislator of having a scandal in the offing and hence his choice to complain over the harsh terms.
"Says a future thief intending to steal soon. Babu is negotiating for friendly bail terms pending his criminal actions," posted a user on Facebook.
"This bail is not well received in the circles of corrupt cartels like you, for us common mwananchi (citizen) we welcome that bail ruling with open arms. We know that judges considers various factors before they decide reasonable bail terms and the decision is in their discretion," posted another one.
In the face of the attack, Owino posted an explanatory post revealing that he was not totally against punishing the corrupt but that giving them harsh terms was not the best practice to apply in fighting the graft.
"I was a victim of several arbitrary arrests and I know what it means to be denied bail. Lets shoot to kill the corrupt instead of giving them bail terms which are unreasonable," explained Owino.
Kenyans were also having none of that and instead carried on with their attacks
"Mheshimiwa (Honourable ), we have known you as one of our own, but on this! Your are letting us down. Point is, the bail should even be made double of what one is alleged of stealing," posted yet another netizen.
