Mudavadi Narrates How Uhuru & Ruto Duped Him in 2013

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday opened up about the 2013 political deal with Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto that was aborted just before it could be made public.

In the aborted deal, Uhuru, who was meant to vie for the presidency using The National Alliance (TNA), was to step down in favour of Mudavadi of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Party.

Speaking in the talk show, Point Blank, where he was hosted by commentator Tony Gachoka, Mudavadi stated that there was no way he could have rejected the offer that was presented before him by the duo.

Mudavadi claimed that at the time, he was scouting for political backing to succeed the then President Mwai Kibaki when the two leaders drove into his home declaring their support for his State House bid.

“I had declared my intention and I was doing my preparations to launch my campaigns formally, then these two gentlemen drove into my compound and declared their support for me,” Mudavadi recounted.

According to Mudavadi, the deal was signed at night in dramatic fashion.

In the one-page agreement  titled, “The Agreement between Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi”, the pact read:

“The two leaders of the coalition parties hereby agree as follows:

1. That Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta shall step down as the presidential candidate of the coalition,

2. That Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi shall be the coalition’s presidential candidate. These details shall be announced within 14 days from the date of signing.”

But Uhuru would a few days later disown the deal, claiming he was forced to sign the agreement with Mudavadi after being blackmailed by “dark forces”.

Nonetheless, Mudavadi who was running for the presidency for the first time claimed that the union between Uhuru and Ruto was not ideological but that it was fueled by the International Criminal Court (ICC) fears.
