Kenyans Justify Chinese Beer Donation to Starving Baringo Residents

On Friday, a Chinese firm distributed beer as part of their donations to the drought-stricken area of Tiaty, Baringo county.

Photos circulating online showed elated residents taking the cartons of the alcoholic beverages and even sampling the gifts from the foreign company.

The initial reactions to the donations left many Kenyans online bewildered with many not understanding why the Chinese company saw it fit to donate alcohol to the starving residents.

"This is too much, how can they give alcohol to starving humans? This is inhuman and abuse to the sovereignty of our land," one user noted.

However, a section saw the sense in the unorthodox donations.

"Isokei,(It's okay), it will help them digest the food and also forget their problems for a day. A can a day keeps worries at bay!" one Kenyan wrote.

Another chimed in, "But they are happier with the liquor also, pili pili usioila yakuwashiani? (why you concerned with what doesn't affect you?)"

"Alcohol has been known to drown sorrows," one netizen stated.

"Good guys they are. Sometimes you just wanna get high. Thank you Chinese donor," another stated.

The Chinese firm's Director, Han Ke, stated that it was a good idea to bring alcohol as he knew that the residents loved it very much.

“Locals in this area love liquor and I saw it fit to include it as part of food donation to the hunger-ravaged villages. We also donated more than 300 bags of maize and cooking oil,” he told journalists.
