ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna, on Saturday, found himself on the receiving end after the party lost in two by-elections.
Both ODM candidates were trounced in the elections with Chris Karan losing the Ugenya seat to Movement for Democracy and Growth party candidate David Ochieng.
Similarly, Irshad Sumra of ODM conceded defeat to Wiper candidate Julius Mawathe in the Embakasi South by-election.
Sifuna took to Twitter to issue a statement on the disappointing results for the party.
"We had a tough day at the ballot. The entire party put in their best effort but we have come up short in both Ugenya and Embakasi South.
"I thank all those who turned out to support us. Congratulations are in order Hon. Mawathe and Wiper Movement. Godspeed," he noted.
A section of Kenyans online faulted the party's ideals and the handling of political matters in the country.
"ODM lacks ideas and ideals to improve the welfare of the people. Their leaders are myopic and feel they are demigods. Their Governors have looted funds meant for devolution and the likes of Orengo and Sifuna are silent about all these," one user noted.
Another quipped, "Your only Manifesto was 'Ruto this, Ruto that' Upuzi tupu!"
In the Ugenya contest, Ochieng garnered 18,730 votes to defeat ODM's Chris Karan who got 14,507 votes.
The by-election was called after the Kisumu High Court nullified Karan's win over irregularities.
In the Embakasi South election, Mawathe garnered 21,628 votes, as Sumra came in second with 7,988.
Sumra conceded defeat before the official results were announced stating that his opponent, Mawathe, had planned well for the elections.
“I had also planned well but I guess my finishing was poor. So, I will work with Mawathe since he has won this contest fair and square," he stated.
