How NYS Boss Survived Corruption Purge

Former NYS Deputy Director General, Clare Chaddah Lwali survived the corruption purge in 2016 as her colleagues got implicated in the same.

The family members revealed the details while mourning her during a burial in Butala, Busia County on Saturday.

She, however, was charged in November 2016 after she was accused of abuse of office and willful failure to comply with procurement laws.

During the prosecution, she was accused of using her office to pay Naro Moru River Lodge Ksh4,476,000 for accommodation and conference facilities without the approval of the tender committee.

However, she was courageous enough to face her accusers fearlessly.

On March 16, 2018, Magistrate Felix Kombo acquitted her from the case for lack of evidence.

The magistrate ruled that the late Chaddah acted in good faith and that the allegations brought against her could not be proved.

Reports by The Standard indicate that she also took on her former boss, who wanted to evict her from a government house located at the NYS headquarters.

Through her determination, Chaddah worked her way to the top from being a junior officer at the youth service.

The National Youth Service (NYS) has in the past been hit with numerous corruption scandals.
