7 Perish in Grisly Road Accident at Ikutha, Kitui County

Seven passengers died, while four others were left injured along the Kitui-Kibwezi highway near Ikutha, Sunday morning.

The accident was caused by a 14-seater matatu driver who lost control and rolled several times along the highway.

Ikutha Deputy County Commissioner, Jackton Orieng stated that four died on the spot while three died while receiving treatment.

Reports by Capital FM indicate that two of those that were seriously injured were taken to Kitui Level Five Hospital while the other two are in a stable condition and receiving treatment at the Ikutha Level IV Hospital.

The matatu was headed to Kasala from Nairobi.

Bodies of those that died were taken to Motomo hospital mortuary.

The County Commissioner also stated that the vehicle was carrying 17 passengers instead of the 14 that is required by the law.

Meanwhile, another accident killed four people and left six others injured in Katakala on the Narok-Bomet road in Narok County.

The accident involved a 14-seater matatu, which collided with a Toyota Prado.

Narok police boss Yunis Adan stated the injured were taken to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment.
