Kenyans have been taken by surprise after revelations that Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote once withdrew Ksh1 billion just to admire it.
The story, published by The Standard, was a narration by Dangote at a forum in Ivory Coast on Saturday.
He explained that he one day, he felt the urge to withdraw the large amount, just to get it into his head that it was real money, not just figures on paper.
"One day, I cashed $10 million, put them in the boot of my car I put it in my room. I looked at them and thought 'now I believe I have money' and took it back to the bank the next day," he told his audience.
Netizens were amazed at Dangote's exuberance and compared it to their own lives.
Princess Raquel wrote, "When am broke I just look at my stretch marks and count them."
"Mimi nikiwithdraw fuliza inameza so sina mbele wala nyuma nimekua mtu round mfupi (When money gets into my account it is used up by my unpaid loans. I am hopeless)," commented another user.
During a past news bulletin, Citizen TV's Yvonne Okwara attempted to show Kenyans, most of whom have never seen Ksh1 billion, a visual representation of that amount of money.
She explained that if one spent Ksh10,000 every day, they would require 274 years to completely deplete Ksh1 billion.
She added that if you lined up the same amount of money lengthwise, the notes would cover 150km.
Using another perspective of area, Yvonne demonstrated that Ksh1 billion notes were enough to cover 3 acres of land.
