Man Hacks Medic to Death Inside Moi Referral Hospital

Residents of Eldoret were, on Tuesday, sent in mourning after a man marched into Moi Referral Hospital and hacked a female medical student, Ivy Wangechi, to death in broad daylight.

Daily Nation reported that the man, Naftali Njahi Kinuthia, 28, was later hospitalised at the same facility following beatings from angry mob who wanted to lynch him.

Witnesses revealed that the medic, who was a sixth-year student at Moi University School of Medicine, was carrying out her practicals when she was attacked near the accident and emergency wing.

He hit the lady with an axe on the head before cutting her neck with a sword.

He then tried to flee the scene but angry members of the public caught up with him and wanted to lynch him when the police showed up and rescued him.

It was reported that the attacker hid the two weapons in a bag in order to gain entry into the facility.

He was admitted into the hospital after sustaining injuries but the motive of the attack was yet to be established.

This comes just months after two nurses were hospitalized at Mama Lucy Hospital following a knife attack by rowdy patients.

Police reports indicated that three civilians arrived at the hospital demanding to be attended to immediately.

Although the patients wanted to bypass the due procedure, the nurses indicated that they had a pressing emergency to attend to hence could not attend to them.

Update: Police have launched investigations into the killing.
