Online influencer and blogger - Polycarp Hinga faced the wrath of netizens following a post he made on his Twitter page which he has since deleted.
Netizens were left in a state of shock after the fake news broke that Kibra Member of Parliament (MP) Kenneth Okoth had succumbed to cancer.
Kenyans across various social media platforms scrambled to authenticate the news which had Okoth's name as number one trending in the country.
However, it turned out to be pure fabrication and Kenyans were quick to narrow down on the individuals who first broke the fake news.
Hinga was top of the list and netizens went hard at him across his various social media platforms.
"You were the first one to come up with these lies. Not cool at all always do due diligence before posting something. This was very very insensitive of you and I hope you've learned from your mistakes," Facebook user Wangui Wanjiku quipped.
The Kibra MP issued a statement confirming he was alive and well and that the rumours were false.
“I’m alive and kicking. Folks should stop killing me before my time with rumors,” read an excerpt of his statement.
Mr Hinga was quick to issue an apology once it was affirmed that the Kibra MP was alive and well, but his public apology didn't do much to calm the irate netizens.
Kenyans cautioned the blogger to exercise caution when posting on matters as sensitive as death in the future.
"But rushing to post about someone's death is totally uncalled for. Why the rush to post?" a Facebook user named Steve Ndeto questioned.
