ODM Quits Wajir West By-election Over Handshake

ODM Party on Tuesday announced that it had quit the forthcoming Wajir West by-election.

The party reportedly resolved to pull out of the April 25 by-election after internal consultations.

The political outfit led by Raila Odinga is said to have settled return the favour to Jubilee Party given the Handshake deal.

Jubilee, where President Uhuru Kenyatta is the Party leader, did not field candidates in the Ugenya and Embakasi South by-elections opting to give ODM leeway following the Handshake pact between the two leaders.

However, ODM nevertheless suffered momentous loss in both elections.

Some political analysts indicated that this loss especially in Ugenya, Siaya County, spelt doom for Raila's political career.

The ODM boss has, however, downplayed the significance of the loss,.

In his view, the loss in Ugenya and Embakasi South by-election was 'just like a drop of water in the ocean."

"Elections are won or lost. The fact that somebody has lost is not a big deal or an issue... in Embakasi it was Nasa vs Nasa... why is the media making a big issue about it?" Raila posed.

“The two by-elections are just like a drop of water in the ocean. ODM remains a very strong and united party," he indicated.
