Paul Njoroge hacked his step-son after an argument ensued between him and his wife over the boy's birth certificate.
The 25-year-old man confessed to killing the 5-year-old boy, Collins Waweru Njambi, after a quarrel ensued between him and his wife.
Njoroge wanted his name listed on the boy's birth certificate while his wife wanted the biological father's name.
According to Daily Nation, Njoroge allegedly slashed the boy using a panga, claiming that he was angry with his wife's decision.
He stated that the argument had led to their separation.
After the separation, his wife took the child to her parents home in Ndutumi, Kiharu constituency, where her parents were taking care of Waweru until he was murdered.
The boy's mother went back to Nairobi and on learning this, Njoroge, who lived in Thika, went to the village where he hid behind the house waiting to attack the deceased at night.
He waited for Waweru's aunt to close the door and stormed inside the house as he tried to access the room the boy slept in.
Murang’a County Police Commander, Josphat Kinyua, stated that the suspect also slashed the aunt's left leg.
“The suspect was determined to kill the child because when the aunt ran away, he forced himself into the house and slashed the deceased severally leaving him for the dead and without touching a cousin of the deceased whom they were sleeping with,” Mr Kinyua told Nation.
The police commander stated that Njoroge had been arrested and will be charged with murder.
“I was very depressed and furious but I was very remorseful after committing the act,” Njoroge cited.
