Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, on Thursday, confirmed that the Huduma Namba registration process was not compulsory.
However, he urged Kenyans to register as it would make access to government services much faster as compared to the existing system.
The CS sent out a recording through his ministry's official Twitter page, in which he confirmed that the government would not force anyone to undertake the registration process.
"We are not going to force anyone to do it, we are only telling everybody its common sense and sensible for them to register," he stated.
CS Matiang'i implored Kenyans to undertake the Huduma Namba registration exercise as it was a noble responsibility for all Kenyans to support the government in streamlining service delivery.
He went on to affirm that people who opted out of the process would not be denied government services but rather face longer waiting periods during any government service requisition process.
"If you don't have a huduma namba you will receive government services, but it will take an unduly and unnecessarily long time for the officers to serve you," he revealed.
President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the countrywide registration exercise in Masii, Machakos County on April 2, 2019.
Other top officials also participated in launching the exercise with ODM’s Raila Odinga overseeing the exercise in Mombasa, DP Ruto was represented in Kakamega by CS Amina and Eugene Wamalwa.
DP Ruto registered for his Huduma Namba in Lang’ata on April 9, 2019 accompanied by his son and daughter.
