An officer working with the Red Cross Society of Kenya was on Friday night hacked to death in Mbwajumwali village, Lamu County, by unknown assailants using a panga.
Daily Nation reported that the officer, Amina Bakari, 30, was closing her own shop at around 11pm when unknown people attacked her leaving her dead.
Confirming the incident, Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri revealed that the area officers were already investigating the matter but no one had been arrested yet.
“It’s true. The lady was attacked by unknown persons as she was closing her shop. Police are investigating the matter. It’s still early to comment on the matter,” Nation quoted Kanyiri.
Acknowledging the identity of the deceased, Kenya Red Cross Society Lamu Branch Coordinator Kauthar Alwy expressed sadness for the murder praising her as the area's peace ambassador.
“I have received the news with shock. I can’t believe that Amina, a very active member of the society here in Lamu is no more. Apart from being a peer educator, she was also a peace ambassador in Mbwajumwali.
"As Kenya Red Cross Society, we had sponsored a youth group in the village as a form of empowering them. Amina was the chairlady of the group and they were doing well. It’s unfortunate that she was killed as she closed her shop. May her soul rest in peace,” stated the Coordinator.
Bakari was also an official with the Nyumba Kumi initiative of that area.
This comes roughly a week after another woman, Mary Wangui, 24, died in the early hours of Monday after allegedly being stabbed by her estranged lover in Nyaribo, Nyeri.
The man is said to have tracked the lady to her friend's house where she had moved to after they separated.
The man reportedly waited until Wangui's friend had left the house at night to go relieve herself before committing the heinous act.
