A man, on Tuesday, narrated a heartbreaking story about how his friend (identified as Haron), who was a KDF soldier, shot dead his mother hours after the two shared supper.
Speaking about the incident that took place on Tuesday morning in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, the man identified as Kiprono revealed that he never thought his friend was capable of such atrocity.
He recalled that they had spent the better part of Monday together, had a meal in the evening and continued hanging out until 4am.
That is when the soldier reportedly went on to kill three members of the same family, including the mother of Kiprono, before turning the gun on himself.
"Huyo msichana vile tulienda tukapoa naye jana, akamwita (KDF soldier) tukakaa naye kidogo halafu tukamleta mpaka kwake hapo. Na sisi tukaingia tukakula vizuri supper. (I went to relax with the girl who called the soldier and we hang out together until we took him back to his house. We entered the house and had supper together.)
"Alafu yeye akatoka kidogo akaenda kwa huyo mrembo. Huyo mrembo akanipigia ati kuja chukua ndugu yako, ndio tukatoka tukaenda (Then he left and went back to the girl who later called me to go pick the soldier)," narrated Kiprono.
Other witnesses regretted the misfortune that befell Kiprono's family where the assailant killed his mother, his uncle and the girl they had shared a meal with.
Ramson, a neighbour, narrated that the killing was so shocking and the manner in which it was carried out indicated that Haron might have been planning the atrocity for a while.
"Hii ni kama kitu yenye mtu ameipanga kwa muda...Alikuja akatupata tumezuia gari kwa mlango yao, akatuomba tuitoe ndio aingie...alafu tukashangaa alienda akagonga gate na akaingia akagonga mpaka ile nyumba. (This looked like his plan...He came and found we had parked in front of their gate, he then asked us to move our car...but we wondered why).
"Unaona ni kitu mtu alikuwa amepanga na hakuwa ameambia watu wengine. Kama Kiprono, wameshinda na Kiprono usiku yote mpaka hiyo saa kumi, (You see, that was something he had planned but had not told anyone. Like Kiprono, he had hang out with Kiprono the entire night until 4am)," stated Ramson.
The reasons for the brutal murder are yet to be established, however, it was reported that he had traveled from Gilgil on Monday night to the homestead where the brutal murder took place.
