Ruto Defends Waititu Over Outrageous Budget Allocations

Deputy President William Ruto has come out to defend Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu over the outrageous budget allocations discovered during a Senate grilling session.

Speaking at a function Ruto stated that the Kiambu head should only be questioned on matters relating to his county and not National government issues.

“Huyu Babayao ni gavana wa Kiambu, budget ya Kiambu hakuna mambo ya retired presidents, hakuna mambo ya South Sudan, hakuna mambo ya state house aulizwe tu mambo ya Kiambu ( Babayao is just the Kiambu governor, the Kiambu budget has no issues relating to retired presidents or South Sudan or the state house and he should just be questioned on issues relating to Kiambu,” Ruto stated.

He went on to state that all those responsibilities were not attached to the county governments and therefore the Senate should not direct such questions to a governor.

The DP went on to mention that only the National government official was responsible for such responsibilities.

Ruto acknowledged that with the direction of questioning Waititu was bound to be clueless as the matters did not fall under his jurisdiction.

“Hata mimi nashangaa ati unakuja kuuliza Babayao mambo ya South Sudan, yeye atajuaje(I'm shocked that you are out there asking babayao about South Sudan, how is supposed to know),” the DP added.

Waititu had appeared before a Senate committee where he was unable to explain some of the expenses in his county budget report.

The report showed that Kiambu County had allocated Ksh180 million for the administration of benefits to retired presidents.

Ksh973 million was also documented to have been used in the coordination of State House functions and Ksh800 million for free primary education.

The report added that Ksh591 million was used on State Corporations Advisory Committee and Ksh58 million to support South Sudan's peace process.
