Football Team Which President Uhuru Sponsors

Current women league leaders, Gatundu Sports Football Club, popularly known as Gaspow FC, revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has been their main sponsor for over a decade.

Speaking on Citizen TV, the club's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Salome Njeri, disclosed that they had designed the club's logo to honour Uhuru and how much his sponsorship had done for the club ever since it was founded in 2005.

“The whisker in the logo is meant to appreciate our main sponsor, Uhuru Kenyatta," Ms Njeri disclosed while speaking on some little known facts about the team.

She went on to reveal that the club, during its inception, mainly aimed at recruiting youth from Gatundu South as a tool for change and empowerment.

Nicknamed Ikulu FC due to their tie to the man currently occupying the house on the hill, the young ladies have been setting the Kenyan Women Premier League alight in the current season with some dazzling displays, having joined the main league back in 2011.

The team's coach, Jackline Juma, indicated that she was confident Uhuru's team had what it takes to clinch the title having collected a maximum 6 points in the last two matches.

“We have been fighting for the top position for so long but finally we are there, I congratulate my team for the good job done.  I will be happy if we win the league this season. I know it will not be that easy but we shall try our best,’’ coach Juma divulged.

In the league, the Gatundu-based team has the enviable record of having played 11 matches and attained the maximum achievable points, 33, as they are yet to taste defeat nor get involved in a match that ended in a stalemate.

Club captain, Winnie, during the interview, noted that the club was mainly comprised of young girls, which has proved to be a secret weapon as team chemistry is at an all-time high.

Notably, the professionally-run club also has an under 13, under 16 as well as an over 17 complete squad to ensure continuity in the long run, with 3 of their current crop of payers having already featured for the Harambee Starlets (Kenyan national women's team) under 21 team.

Two of our former players, Mumjay Nafula and Mary Kinuthia were plucked by top Swedish women's league team, Delham FC where they have been playing for the past two years.
