How Police Impostor Robbed Bank Using Hacksaw

Details have emerged about how a police impostor led an operation that robbed off Ksh484,890 a local bank using a hacksaw.

While testifying in a Kibera court on Monday, four suspects who were charged with cutting the bank's window grills revealed that they were patrolling the premises when a man dressed as a police officer urged them to relax as everything was okay.

They had earlier rushed to the premise when they heard an alarm go off before they met the rogue officer.

“When we arrived there, we realised that all was in control. The police officer had made us believe all was well and we left the place,” narrated Josiah Maiko one of the suspects.

The four, including Maiko, Oscar Lumiti, Moses Amunga and Charles Kemosi, were charged with using metal cutting gadgets to saw off the bank's window grills.

In their defence, the suspects argued that they believed the rogue officer because they did not have guns and so could not risk their lives going against the thugs.

“They came with guns, caught me and tied me to a tree upside down. How could I help? I only helped myself after they left the compound,” stated one of the suspects.

They subsequently denied the charges.

The investigating officer, however, maintained that the four had conspired with the thugs to rob the bank and that he had enough evidence to prove it.

He further argued that at the time he arrived at the scene of the crime, the CCTV cameras were not functioning.

They cut the bank's window grills but failed to access the safe.
