Sonko's County Secretary's Arrest Causes Fracas at City Hall

Nairobi acting County Secretary Pauline Kahiga was arrested in a dramatic fashion on Wednesday after detectives from EACC stormed her office at City Hall.

On arrival, EACC detectives were blocked from accessing the building by county security officers in a scuffle that lasted one hour.

Journalists who had arrived to cover the action were also kicked out of City Hall.

Apart from whisking away Pauline, the detectives also seized documents that they believe will aid in the investigations of corruption.

EACC Spokesperson Yasin Amaro told Nation that Ms Kahiga, who also doubles up as Public Service CEC, was apprehended for concealing evidence.

The office of the county secretary is key in the coordination of the county's executive committee.

The arrest happened just a day after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko castigated Nation for reporting that his he was being investigated.

Sonko further threatened the media house that he would seek legal action if they did not share their Tuesday newspaper profits accusing them of using his name to make money.

"If you don't pay me, I will take you to court... If you don't pay me profits you made today, you will pay me billions," he told NTV's Ken Mijungu on Tuesday night.

"Mr Sonko, who according to investigators is not known for any major investments, has been asked to explain the source of the monies he splashes around as well as his property including his Mua Hills residence in Machakos County. In the 2017/2018 financial reports, the auditor general unearthed several anomalies in the books of Nairobi County," reported Daily Nation on Tuesday.

Update: Nairobi County Communications Director Jacob Elkana told Kenyans.co.ke that Ms Kahiga was taken to EACC offices to answer to investigations and was released soon after.
