Ruto Explains Why He Will Not Stop Giving Money in Churches

Deputy President (DP), William Ruto, on Sunday, defended his stance on making monetary contributions to churches and vowed to continue doing so.

The DP was speaking during an interdenominational church service in Kakuma town, Turkana County, where he went on to hold a funds drive in aid of over 30 churches in the region.

In his defence, DP Ruto quoted a scripture from the bible that urged believers to lend a hand whenever possible especially to fellow believers.

"Galatians 6:10 states; Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers," Ruto asserted.

Ruto was defiant in his stance to always help out in churches, adding that he was following God's word and couldn't understand individuals who kept speaking ill of such contribution.

"We will continue to support the church because we have been commanded by God to do just that," the DP remarked.

He went on to add that attending a church service was voluntary and thus those who weren't frequent church members or contributors had no right to raise any issue concerning what goes on in the church.

"Sasa ukikuja kanisani mtu anapiga kelele mbona umetoa pesa kanisani, inamhusu nini? kwenda kanisani ni kwa hiari," loosely translating to, when you come to church there are those that are constantly fighting you over your monetary contributions, going to church is voluntary, how do your actions in church concern them exactly? he posed.

DP Ruto also asked his detractors to stick to their lane as none of them had been called on to make any monetary contributions by force, and that those making such donations were merely exercising free will but more importantly, following God's command.

He asked the church to pay no attention to those who he claimed were trying to politicise its affairs and against development.

“I want to encourage the church, to ignore those making noise, it's nothing new, even Paul the Apostle went through the same, he was even taken to prison for doing God's work,” DP Ruto affirmed.
