Refugees Admit to Planning Attack on Police

Immigrants arrested last week for injuring police officers have admitted that the attack was pre-planned.

The refugees are from different countries mainly Uganda, Somalia and Ethiopia.

On Friday, they were arraigned before Kibera Magistrate Florence Mutuku where they warned the court that the UNHCR offices based in Westlands should expect more chaos.

They vowed to fight for their rights in the coming days.

“Madam, after us others will be coming. You remember last week my colleagues were in this court, even next week others will be coming,” one of them was quoted by The Star.

The refugees said that they had been forcefully ejected from Kakuma refugee camp because they were gay and that's why they camped at the Nairobi offices.

They also complained that they had not received their monthly money stipends from the commission.

The refugees have been forced to camp outside the agencies building hoping for someone to address their concerns.

The UN agency has since come out and distanced itself from the fracas, stating that those eligible to a pay have been paid.

The agency also said that they are doing what is in within their ability to resolve the situation.

Some of the gay refugees are asking for them to be relocated to safe houses as they are currently susceptible to attacks where they camp outside the agency building.

Some of the children sleeping outside the agency have fallen ill due to the harsh Nairobi weather.
