Police Lob Teargas at Refugees Outside UNHCR Offices in Nairobi [PHOTOS]

There were dramatic scenes when police, on Friday, lobbed teargas at refugees who had camped outside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) offices in Westlands.

Nobody was spared in the fracas as security guards began beating up the individuals including some who were disabled.

The guards reported roughed up tens of refugees who resisted the attempt to chase them away.

Jean Claude, a physically disabled refugee from the DRC stated that it was unfair for them to be beaten up.

Speaking to Capital FM News in his wheelchair he divulged “They’re beating even the disabled. We have suffered enough already to go through this pain.

"Where will I sleep on?” He stated as he lamented on why the guards had burnt down his mattress and a light cloth he used to keep himself warm.

Children weren't spared either as the refugees tried to salvage their beddings from the guards.

The refugees told reporters of how they had been forced to camp outside the offices for months without getting their payments from the commission.

They explained that they had been unable to afford food and housing after the officials failed to remit their money.

“Where is our money? They drive big cars, live in big houses at our expense,” a refugee from Somalia stated.
