New Eliud Kipchoge Ksh80 Million State of The Art Facility

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has had his name cast in stone quite literally after Nandi county constructed a Ksh80 million sporting complex in his name.

The one of a kind facility, that has been constructed in Kapsabet town, will also act as an athletics Hall of Fame for stars from Nandi county.

Nandi county sports chief officer, Kennedy Tanui, announced that Phase One is 90 percent complete at the cost of Ksh30 million.

In phase one, the state of the art complex has a modern gym facility, a conference hall, offices, track, and an athletes’ lounge.

Phase two which will cost a whooping Ksh50 million is set to start immediately after the completion of the first section.

In the second phase, the facility will feature a physiotherapy room, 200-bed capacity hostel facility, a second conference hall and a restaurant among others.

The facility will also have a swimming pool, an art studio, and a gallery that will be named after prominent heroes and heroines in the sports sector as a Hall of Fame.

Once Phase One is complete, Phase Two will commence immediately. Bids are currently under evaluation and will be opened and closed within this week,” Tanui added.

The county's CEC for sports Elly Kurgat stated that the project is intended to be used by the county to nature talents and that the administration hopes to have it open by the time trials for the next World Championships come around.

The project was also funded by the Nandi county government in honour of the marathon legend who hails from the county.

The facility was built next to the Kipchoge Keino Stadium under the control of the National government.
