How Fred Matiang’i Survived Impeachment Motion

It has now emerged that the plot to impeach Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i was dropped due to a number of political ramifications that could affect Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

According to some MPs allied to Ruto, Matiang’i seems to enjoy large political clout nationally which could turn out to be detrimental to the DP’s political career.

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was of the view that any move to impeach Matiang’ i could imperil Ruto’s political fortunes in Gusii.

The MPs further noted that Matiang'i's ouster plans could become a cropper because of the support he appears to enjoy in Parliament across the political divide.

Reports by People Daily indicate that the Ruto- allied MPs have now turned their eyes on Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

Kibicho has rubbed the pro-Ruto group the wrong way following his alleged directive to regional and  county commissioners not to honour functions organised by Ruto and MPs allied to him.

Furthermore, the ruling party lawmakers are reportedly unhappy with Kibicho’s handling of the “Slush Fund”.

They claim that the powerful PS, who controls the fund, allegedly uses the resources to fund Kieleweke team comprising anti-Ruto leaders.

The members also accuse Kibicho of drawing money from the secret fund, which is never subjected to audit queries.

On Wednesday, however, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale Duale stated that Jubilee party would not allow any of their members to table a motion to have a Cabinet secretary or a civil servant removed from office arising from political interests.
