Parents from the Mudasa Academy in Vihiga county are up in arms protesting what they termed as exploitation by the institution.
The parents stated that they were being charged Ksh15,000 for a three day trip for class six pupils to Nakuru County where they were scheduled to visit National Parks among other sites.
According to a notice sent to the parents, the trip is scheduled to begin on August 5 to August 7 of this year.
They claimed that the cost was way too much considering the distance the children were supposed to travel and the current fees for national park entry.
“Ksh15,000 what for? Are they going to the coast for a four-day vacation?” Maureen Njeri one of the parents questioned.
“This is way too much, other schools are going to Kampala for four days and are paying Ksh12,000 only,” a shocked Sheillar Nyagah expressed.
Some parents though came to the defense of the school stating with the current economic situation and prices the cost of the trip was reasonable.
“From August 5 to August 7, it's possible to cost that much, unless you want your children to sleep on trees,” noted Julye Karori.
National Parents Association Chairman Nicholas Maiyo noted that the trips were beneficial but the cost should not be exaggerated.
The Ministry of Education stated that they could not take any action on the matter as no official complaint had been lodged against any institution on overcharging school trips.
